Cities in Pasco County FL

Before Isaac Washington Hudson founded the town of Hudson, Florida, the activity that surrounded this vicinity was vibrant. From the 1600s to the 1800s swashbuckling pirates found this area to be a perfect place to bury their takings. Afraid of getting caught, they would use the inlets, coves and bayous to cover up their illegal activities. During the Civil War the Confederacy used the Hudson coast for almost the same thing that pirates used it for, to sneak vital supplies past the Union patrols on the coastline to the fighting residents inland. In 1878, a teacher by the name of B.L. Blackburn established a Post Office in Hudson, this prompted for a name. Originally, this Post Office was called Hudsons Landing, named after Isaac Washington Hudson, but only a few days later the Post Office Department had removed the word Landing and left the name of the Post Office as Hudson. The name of the town evolved into Hudson, Florida by 1881.
